ROUTINE FERTILITY WORK

ROUTINE FERTILITY WORK:

At Cheshire Farm Vets we pride ourselves on a team approach to fertility management and working with our Dairy clients to optimise the health and performance of all their cows. We encourage clients to have regular visits with their vet to meet and monitor key fertility parameters. This not only allows us to maintain high fertility levels, but also allows us regualr contact with your girls therefore addressing any issues as soon as possible. We apply a whole herd approach to fertility and understand the close association between fertility and health. As a practice we are very aware that we are a cog in a very big wheel and will work with your team of hersdman, calf rearers, nutritionists, consultants and AI technicians.

Routine visits are a highly beneficial tool to keep the focus on 365d calving as well as the general nutritional and preventative management issues surrounding on farm disease and biosecurity.

Benefits of routine fertility visits:

  • Reduce your calving index
  • Diagnose cystic and non-cycling cows
  • Diagnose and treat uterine infection early to get cows back in calf sooner
  • Synchronise groups of heifers or cows

Our team of Dairy Vets are experienced in delivering routine fertility work using ultrasound scanning carrying out in-depth examination of the reproductive tract and early diagnosis of pregnancy down to 28 days. They all cover carry modern hand held scanning equipment. All vets are confident with ageing pregnancies and sexing pregnancies as male or female can be performed on request at approximately 60 days post-service.

Non-bullers: usually synchronised to guarantee service. We are happy to leave prostaglandin on farm for you to use provided it is stored and used safely by trained farm staff. We will ask you to complete some paper work prior to this. Treatment can be tailored to the cow if necessary using ultrasound to identify ovarian cysts, anoestrus and CL size. We believe it is important for non- cycling cows to be checked reguarly as there can be a number of underlying reasons for this.
